Anok Yai Finally Scores a Vogue Cover, Posing on Vogue Korea’s March 2019 Issue

Anok Yai’s first Vogue cover is long overdue. After all, it’s been almost a year since the Egyptian-born, Sudanese model captivated the industry when she became the second black model (after Naomi Campbell) to open a Prada show. Since then, she became a brand ambassador for makeup giant Estée Lauder, scored covers of i-D Magazine and Another, and featured in Prada’s current advertising campaign. Now, it’s Vogue Korea that finally makes Anok its cover girl, photographed by Hyea W. Kang for the March 2019 cover. Anok strikes a pose wearing a Saint Laurent bodysuit in the crisp cover, styled by Kihoh Sohn.

It didn’t take our forum members long to give the cover some love. “Gorgeous shot, the bodysuit looks good but maybe the necklace is too much. Super happy for Anok. Is this her first Vogue cover? I was kinda hoping for Vogue Italia to be her first but considering what a mess that magazine is, maybe it’s better not,” commented apple.

“I guess that’s her first Vogue cover. And about damn time! I was expecting her to have a few of the big fours by now, considering how stunning she is and the hype around her. Happy for her. She looks great as usual,” guimon said.

“Hopefully just one of many covers to come for Anok. She is stunning,” raved mathiaskatz.

Forum member Valentine27 agreed: “It’s looking good. I’m loving the bodysuit and the necklace together. And of course, congrats to Anok!”

“Stunning! They’ve mastered the feat of turning this into both a fashion and beauty cover,” praised Benn98.

However, not everyone liked the outcome. “I actually hate this cover! Her pose is awkward, the lighting is amateur and the overall photo…we’ve seen it before. Anok is gorgeous but she has the same face in every photo,” noted RMDV.

“Anok has still not completely convinced me in print. She has incredible features and looks stunning, but I feel like she always has the same facial expression on. But it’s still very nice to see a black model featured on the cover of an Asian magazine,” credited ekaost.
