CR Fashion Book Unveils a Bold New Look for Spring 2019, Starring Cynthia Ervio

As print continues to struggle, Carine Roitfeld recently announced that she plans to reduce her role at her namesake CR Fashion Book in order to provide opportunities to fresh talent. Along with the announcement comes a bold new redesign for the Spring/Summer 2019 edition. Gone is the CR signature logo, in favor of a smaller, more retro alternative. The cover images still speak volumes, with the latest going to Cynthia Erivo, who stars on one of six yet-to-be-released covers for Issue #14. The British actress follows in the footsteps of Gigi Hadid, Halima Aden, Rihanna and Joan Smalls, photographed in all her glory by Roe Ethridge.

Unfortunately, members of our forums weren’t exactly wowed by CR‘s latest. “This is really bad. Cynthia Erivo delivered two of the best performances I’ve seen last year and got little to no recognition, so I’m glad she’s getting exposure but this… this is terrible, she deserves better!” ” called out mistress_f.

“Yikes this is horrid. Who is doing their art direction? Carine needs help… each issue is so cheap looking!” complained RMDV.

“What in the Monotype Corsiva is this? The new logo looks like something you’d see on wedding invitations,” mocked MON.

“I read the WWD article and the magazine wants to look young, in Carine’s words but with that logo? It looks like a joke. It’s sad because using her signature as a logo gave the magazine the sense of ‘exclusivity’ no matter if the content was good enough or not,” jorgepalomo said.

Dior_couture1245 agreed: “Total travesty. The new logo is a nightmare.”

“WOW, why would they put Cynthia in giant shades making her unrecognizable?” asked TREVOFASHIONISTO.

“I love Cynthia, so I am happy to see her getting some exposure, but this is definitely not working for me,” wrote [Piece of Me].

Here’s hoping the other five covers hold more promise. Wait them out and join the conversation here.
